In Xubuntu 10.04 LTS, Alsa and gnome-screensaver were replaced with Pulseaudio and xscreensaver respectively. The Ubuntu Software Centre was introduced as the default package manager.
Xubuntu 10.10 introduced Parole as the default media player. Brasero and the Gnome task manager were replaced by Xfburn and the Xfce4-taskmanager respectively. The Bluebird theme from the Shimmer Project was introduced.
Based on Xfce 4.8, Xubuntu 11.04 introduced editable menus and a new icon theme based on Elementary. The top panel was joined by a dock-like bottom panel.
Xubuntu 12.04 LTS incorporated many changes, including changes to the default shortcuts. The Pulseaudio volume control (pavucontrol) was introduced as replacement for xfce4-mixer. Along with the 12.04 release, the new Xubuntu logo saw daylight.
In Xubuntu 12.10, Xfce 4.10 was introduced. The menu saw some reorganisation with setting related items moved to the Settings Manager. The documentation was completely rewritten.
Xubuntu 13.04 was intended as a maintenance release with few new features. Updates to documentation were included with new versions of Catfish and Parole. GIMP and Gnumeric were reintroduced after a decision to set the target size to 1GB. From Xubuntu 13.04, regular releases would be supported for only 9 months.
New features and applications for Xubuntu 14.04 LTS included Xfdesktop 4.11 and Mugshot user account profile tool. MenuLibre replaced Alacarte as the menu editor and and Light locker became the default login manager, also replacing xscreensaver. Whisker menu was added as the default menu applet in the panel.
In Xubuntu 14.10, only a few new features were included; a new Power management applet was added to the panel and the window cycling dialog allowed items to be focused with a mouseclick. Users of Xubuntu 14.10 saw the inclusion of pink highlights, highlighting the ease with which changes can be made to the desktop by users if they didn’t get on with the default.
In Xubuntu 15.10, LibreOffcice Calc and Writer replaces Gnumeric and Abiword respectively. A new icon theme is shipped to make LibreOffice look more integrated with the rest of the system. Greybird gets an accesibility version for the window manager theme. Xfce4 Panel Switch is included for backup and restoration of panel with 5 default presets.
Xubuntu 16.04 is an LTS version. In 16.04, Ubuntu Software Center was replaced by GNOME Software. Winners from a community wallpaper contest were included with the release for the second time.
Xubuntu 19.10 features Xfce 4.14, released in August 2019 after nearly 4.5 years of development. Backed by GTK 3 and other modern technologies, Xfce 4.14 includes many new features, improved HiDPI support, and the same great performance for which Xfce is known.
Xubuntu 8.10 was the sixth Xubuntu release. Listen was the default media player and Catfish and Seahorse were introduced. Support for encrypted private directories was added.
